Jan always enjoyed art classes in high school. Although it had been a big part of her, she did not pursue an education in it. She kept her hand at it for awhile after she married in 1976, but kids were born and life flew by with little time for painting.
Jan started painting again in 2006 after her daughters gave her everything she needed to start again. They knew she had a desire to paint, and now was time to start. They were so right. Oh, the wisdom of youth. So, with a new set of oil paints, brushes and canvases, she began to paint.
In 2009, she discovered the Pat Rini Rohrer Gallery and Studio II in Canandaigua. This was what she needed, direction, coaching if you will. Someone to tell her to “put the paint brush down and step back”. Jan has taken classes with Pat ever since. She has also taken classes from Grant Lounsbury and Maureen McMahon, and a workshops with Judy Soprano, Dick Kane, Ann Larsen and Elaine Liberio. Under these talented and wonderful artists, her talent/gifts are growing.
In 2011 she discovered Plein Air painting, that is painting what you see in the open air. She has participated in the Seneca Lake, Anthony Road Winery and the Morristown Plein Air festivals. In 2017, she won the “Artist Choice” award at Morristown.
She enjoys painting with her friends Elaine Liberio and Tina Yannotti Burgess. Together they make up artiststhree and have had many shows and Plein Air adventures together.
Jan has displayed her paintings at Pat Rirni Rohrer Gallery, in various Finger Lakes wineries, at Main Street Arts, gift shops, and at local Libraries, Banks and Professional offices. Jan was a participant in the “Women Artists of the Finger Lakes” for several years. She is a member of the Ontario County Arts Association and is part of the Ontario County Rotating Artists. She is also a member of the Wayne County Arts.
