Elaine Liberio: Artist’s Biography
Elaine was greatly influenced by her uncle, oil painter Edward Lennon, and as a young girl she would sit and watch him paint for hours at a time. Her uncle Eddie gave Elaine her first set of oils at the age of 13, her favorite medium from that point on. She attended CCFL, graduating with highest honors in Studio Art and then attended Empire State College to study painting and printmaking through the unique mentoring program it offered with noted New York artists, Tom Insalaco and Wayne Williams, developing her own curriculum with their guidance.
After college, Elaine continued making art, while raising a family and working with her husband, Al, in Christian ministry. In 1987 she and her family moved to Maine and in 1996 she began Art Designs, a fine art and design studio. She participated in many local art shows and competitions where she won awards, sold her paintings and also taught classes and workshops in oil, watercolor and pyrography as well as doing commissions of people and pets.
In 2006, Elaine and Al moved back to the Finger Lakes area and she re-named her studio, Liberio Art. She reconnected with Wayne Williams and joined the Wayne County Council for the Arts. Currently she manages the “Gallery Gift Shop” for the Council. She is also a member and past president of the Western Wayne Arts Group, a member of the Ontario County Arts Council, and member and treasurer of Pop-Up Artists of the Finger Lakes. She offers workshops, classes, paint alongs and demonstrations in oil painting, acrylic, watercolor, drawing and pyrography. One of her most fun workshops is “Oil Painting with Rags. No Brushes Allowed”. She has also developed a love for Plein Air painting. “Painting is exhilarating, especially Plein Air! What better way to communicate God’s creation in all its glory and wonder than to be out in the world He created, painting it.” Elaine teamed up with two other artists in 2012, Tina Yannotti Burgess and Jan Romeiser, to form “artiststhree”. They paint and show their work together around the Finger Lakes.
Elaine’s philosophy of art is simple. God’s inspiration fills her until it overflows as she moves the paint over the canvas. She chooses people, animals and nature as her subjects and she hopes her paintings draw the viewer in and brings them a sense of peace, joy and awe as she attempts to show the wonders of God in her art.
Her studio is located at 48 State Route 21, Palmyra, NY 14522. To inquire about workshops, commissions or to tour her studio, contact her at liberioart@rochester.rr.com, www.facebook.com/liberioart or 315-945-2374
